The Universal Chemical

Sulfuric acid is often referred to as the “universal chemical” and “the chemical that makes chemicals” due to the numerous applications for sulfuric acid as a raw material or processing agent

This basic building block chemical is used in the production of countless daily and household items. From beer and sweeteners, to paper and pharmaceuticals, our quality product helps create items you use every single day.

Sulfuric acid is produced at our facilities through the combustion of elemental sulfur (S) to form sulfur dioxide (SO2). The SO2 is transformed into sulfur trioxide (SO3) through a catalytic oxidation. The SO3 then reacts with water by being absorbed in concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4)

Benefits of Sulfuric Acid

  • Low cost
  • Low volatility
  • Easily stored and transported
  • Ability to act as a strong oxidizing agent
  • Ability to act as a strong dehydrating agent
  • Strong acidic properties

Conversion Table

The conversion table is a tool to understand the correlation between acid strength, density of sulfuric acid, and specific gravity.
